The Sconi Project has ease of access with facilities secured at the Port of Townsville, one of the largest general cargo and container ports in Australia. The Port of Townsville has world-class infrastructure to support the export of bulk commodities and refined metals as well as the import of process reagents. The Port operates direct services to Singapore, so cargo can be easily transhipped to anywhere in the world.
The Sconi Project site is accessible via an existing sealed road that forms part of the existing public road network.
The existing public road network connects major sealed roads from the Port of Townsville, Townsville Airport and the town of Greenvale to Sconi, supporting road freight for Sconi exports and access to the site for local work forces and services.
The Sconi Project has access to the National Electricity Market via an existing Ergon Energy 66kV line (proposed to be upgraded to 275kV) located next to the site. The Genex Power Kidston Clean Energy Hub is also located in close proximity of Sconi providing clean, large scale, renewable power (solar generation with pumped storage hydro).
Additionally, Sconi’s integrated design means power will be generated from high pressure steam that is a by-product of the on-site MHP process plant. Low-pressure steam will be directed to a steam turbine, powering much of Sconi’s on-site requirements.
The Sconi Project has an abundant and secure long term water supply designed to minimise the Project's impact.
Sconi’s water management is designed to minimise the Project's impact and includes an initial 2 gigalitres of water drawn from rainwater held in the existing flooded pits at the Project, which will then be supplemented by water drawn from the nearby Burdekin River during flood periods and stored on site.
There is existing telecommunications infrastructure in close proximity to the Sconi Project.
The Sconi development plan includes investment to upgrade this existing infrastructure to allow connection to the national telecommunications network and the provision of modern telecommunications and broadband service at the Project.
The Sconi Project is serviced by two existing airport facilities in Greenvale (IATA: GVP) and Townsville (IATA: TSV) providing considerable flexibility through multiple transport options.
The Sconi Project has secured a significant parcel of freehold land (13 acres) in the township of Greenvale. This land will be utilised for the development of an accommodation village to support a predominantly residential workforce, with minimal use of fly-in fly-out workers.
